Luxury home furnishings brand Christopher Guy will open a new 10,000-square-foot flagship furniture showroom on May 5 in West Hollywood, Calif.
The grand opening of the Christopher Guy West Hollywood Showroom at 8900 Beverly Blvd. will take place in conjunction with BritWeek Los Angeles, where celebrated hat designer Philip Treacy and Christopher Guy will host The Second Annual Christopher Guy-BritWeek Design Award for California design students.
Architectural Digest magazine is media sponsor for the May 5 event.
The new location is more than triple the size of the current Beverly Hills showroom. The interior design of the space was created by Christopher Guy Harrison, award-winning internationally renowned designer, CEO and founder of the Christopher Guy brand. In keeping with the prevailing concept of the brand's philosophy, melding classical values into a modern environment, the showroom is designed as a furniture lifestyle gallery with decorative accents as the art pieces. A hanging "waterfall" made of Murano crystal at the entrance sets the mood for the entire showroom. Behind the glass wall is a chandelier with LCD lights, designed by Christopher Guy and created in France and offering the appearance of a cluster of snow drops.
A key feature of the new showroom is the state-of-the-art fully functional Christopher Guy Design Lab, created as an ideal working environment for interior designers allowing many capabilities to complete entire design projects. Using advanced software and touch screen display, designers will be able to apply fabric and finishes to their desired furnishing pieces. They will also be able to scale entire rooms to suit their client's dreams. The Design Lab provides many options to designers and allows them to create their entire project within one working environment.
In conjunction with the grand opening of the new Christopher Guy showroom and BritWeek 2012, Christopher Guy will announce and celebrate the winner and runner-up of The Second Annual Christopher Guy-BritWeek Design Award. The design competition required students to design a furnishing or decorative accent piece based on the remarkable creations of haute couture hat designer Philip Treacy. Students from more than 10 California design schools have submitted their designs, which will be judged and presented on the night of May 5. The panel of judges will include Philip Treacy; Christopher Guy Harrison; Martyn Lawrence Bullard, celebrity interior designer and named one of the top 100 Interior Designers in the World by Architectural Digest magazine; and Birgit C. Muller, three time Emmy awarding winning costume designer.
Veuve Cliquot Champagne and Jaguar will sponsor the grand opening celebration.
"It's fabulous to be opening this very special showroom in Los Angeles, especially coinciding with BritWeek," said Harrison. "This year we shall be honoring Philip Treacy for his services to the British design industry, as well as presenting California design school students who entered our competition with trips to visit a prestigious design show in Europe and my Singapore design offices."
Following the grand opening of the West Hollywood showroom, Christopher Guy open a new, custom-built showroom in New York City at the New York Design Center. Encompassing more than 20,000 square feet on the 16th floor of the NYDC, the New York showroom will allow for growth of Christopher Guy's northeastern presence with key designers in the world's largest metropolitan area.

Former Latex International human resources head Joanne Osmolick has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for embezzling more than $1.75 million.
Former CEO Kevin Coleman, who with Osmolik stole around $3.5 million from the company by using a company credit card for personal expenses, and who pled guilty to wire fraud and tax evasion earlier this year, awaits sentencing.
Osmolik pleaded guilty in December to stealing more than $1.75 million from the company.
"Osmolik and her co-conspirator recklessly pillaged Latex International purely for their own benefit, while having no regard for the employees, customers and shareholders of our company who suffered as a result of their actions," said Dave Fisher, president and CEO of Latex International, Shelton, Conn. "It has taken the new management team several years to pull itself out of the painful financial morass that these criminals caused our company. We are pleased they have finally been brought to justice. I am very grateful for the diligent efforts of the U.S. Attorney, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service for all their assistance throughout this process."

When Doug and Julie Huseby founded Becker Furniture World in 1978, the store was just 500 square feet. Over the years, they expanded the business into one of the nations largest furniture showrooms, a 250,000-square-foot megastore in Becker, Minn., that...

More Now that another season of "Mad Men" is taking us back to the 1960s, lovers of mid-century modern style are eyeing the sets for inspiration. The popularity of both the AMC show and the design style makes it easy to find furniture that sets the stage. The retro décor complements many of today's furnishings, says Anthony Larosa, former furniture design department chair at Savannah College of Art and Design. But he cautions against going all-in on the vintage look, even if you love it. "People would have had a mix of furniture in their homes," he notes. If
