La-Z-Boy Looks to Open 100-150 Stores

Four years ago, Kurt L. Darrow was forced to make some of the toughest decisions of his life. The La-Z-Boy Inc. chairman, president and CEO had to make cuts, and had no time to spare.

The company had ended its 2009 fiscal year in April with $122.7 million in losses and a stock that was trading for about $2 per share €“ nearly 70 percent less than the previous year. €œIt was the most trying time in my career,€ Darrow told MLive.com from inside the furniture giant€™s headquarters in Monroe.

Small fire causes a scare in a Naples furniture store

Firefighters responded to the Baer's Furniture on Tamiami Trail shortly before noon, after employees noticed a strange odor. Crews say the water heater caught fire, forcing people to evacuate the building. The store says most of the damage was contained to the upstairs and it was able to reopen in a few hours.

Furniture Company Expanding In High Point

On Tuesday, Absolute Style celebrated the grand opening of its new High Point facility. "I think it's pretty cool. It's nice to see production going and not grass growing in parking lots around this town," said owner Melanie McNamara. McNamara only uses American-based suppliers and employs local workers. Right now, about 30 people work for the company and they're looking to expand. "We have a lot going on, our vendors have a lot going on. We're seeing a lot more growth coming back to America," McNamara said.
