Paula Deen Launches Kids Line With Universal

By Home Furnishings Business in Youth, Juvenile Furniture on July 11, 2012

Celebrity cook and Southern lifestyle maven Paula Deen and Universal Furniture have launched a new youth bedroom line, Paula Deen Kids.

Paula Deen Kids, which includes "Guys" for boys and "Gals" for girls, will join Universal's Smartstuff brand of youth furniture.

The Deen collections were inspired by her own gracious style and the life she shares with her grandkids, nieces, nephews and a host of other youngsters, who love the bustle and fun of Paula€™s Savannah home.

€œGuys and Gals share Paula€™s special style of comfortable casual furniture, touched with Southern sophistication,€ said Jeff Scheffer, CEO of Universal Furniture International. €œBut like Smartstuff, Paula Deen Kids was built from the ground up just for kids. It is not adult furniture retrofitted for her little friends.€

As with each approximately 25-piece  Smartstuff collection, Guys and Gals present innovative combinations of styling, safety-conscious construction, strategic pricing and game-changing smart features. Your Choice pricing applies so that similar pieces cost the same across both collections.

Like the rest of the Smartstuff family, Gals and Guys are fully appointed with all of the fun features, smart teaching function: Nightstands feature a set of coasters for that sweaty glass, urging kids to €œRespect the Wood€ and protect the furniture; a folding board is a clever tool included in every dresser to make it easy to keep shirts looking tidy and kids looking smart; all hutches come with world maps to equip tomorrow€™s global leaders; a star chart accompanies all bunk beds to foster a love of exploration and discovery; desks feature an easy guide to ergonomics and proper posture for good health and study habits; every chest includes a Smart Moves easy exercise guide to keep kids sharp, nimble and quick.

Other Smartstuff features incorporated throughout each Guys and Gals collection include: patented charging stations in nightstands for today€™s plugged-in kids and all their stuff, like cell phones, iPods, iPads, computers, TVs, today€™s unending electronic necessitiesp or the vacuum sweeper when it€™s time to clean up; removable partitions in the lower drawers provide simple organization to help mom and her kids bring order to busy lives; each dresser includes a hidden storage compartment beneath a felt-lined tray for those special little treasures; built-in lighting is strategically placed for studying or to help keep monsters at bay during the night; a clever tray for the upper bunk creates a nightstand-in-the-sky for an iPod, cell phone or alarm clock; beds are available in twin and full with bunk beds available as twin over twin, twin over full, and full over full. Select beds available in queen size; under-bed storage units and trundles provide a sleeping place for sleepovers or extra space.

The Smartstuff construction story also is the same. Soft edges, bases and pilasters ensure safety for young children and greater appeal for older kids and young adults. Drawer interiors feature English dovetail joints on the front and back with full finish 9/16th inch oak plywood. The drawers operate on a pair of ball bearing, full-extension, soft-closing, under-mount glides. Bedrails are 100 percent bolt-together construction for sturdier, wobble-free beds. Bunk beds feature ladders with wider steps and deeper mattress openings. All finishes are lead free and are approved by a respected independent third-party testing lab. Innovative smart features along with Smartstuff Stuff and ample storage are incorporated throughout the collections. All beds accommodate an under-bed trundle or storage unit.

Las Vegas Gets Seriously Social

By Home Furnishings Business in Social Media on July 11, 2012

World Market Center Las Vegas has unveiled First Look: Ready Your Repin, a social media campaign to give market-goers a look at products and trends at Las Vegas Furniture Market.

In addition, social media enthusiasts and market-goers are invited to participate in a new photo contest (#iamlvm on Instagram and Twitter) and follow top bloggers as they embark on a two-day €œTreasure Hunt€ of hot finds at the July 30-August 3 Market.

Traditionally a publication distributed only during market, First Look: Ready Your Repin now allows Las Vegas Market attendees to start their pre-market shopping early. The campaign welcomes attendees to log onto Pinterest here, follow three First Look product boards (Furniture, Accents, Gifts & Holiday), and repin and like their favorite finds. Followers will receive daily new product pins leading up to and during market€”just look for the First Look stamp€”and the manufacturers of the product(s) that acquire the most likes and repins will be featured in a special showcase.

€œWe are excited to bring First Look to the social media stage€”providing market attendees with a preview of the latest trends and must-see products at LVM,€ said Dana Andrew, vice president of global marketing and communications for International Market Centers. €œIncorporating First Look into a relevant, socially-driven media channel like Pinterest makes perfect sense. Our attendees are hungry to know what€™s hot in colors, trends, patterns and products€”in advance of and live at Market€”from the breadth of LVM€™s exhibiting companies.€

Similar to past Markets, HGTV€™s Monica Pedersen and Home Trends Editor Julie Smith Vincenti will be hosting the traditional First Look presentation live during Las Vegas Market on Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m. A sampling of these new products will also be featured in the honeycomb-shaped product display in the lobby of Building B.

LVM also will introduce its new twitter hashtag that complements this Summer Market€™s ad campaign, €œYou are Las Vegas Market.€ Attendees are encouraged to use the hashtag, #iamlvm on Instagram and Twitter to post photos of what Market means to them, including what showrooms they are visiting and what hot spots around the WMCLV campus they are frequenting. During Market week, select photos using the #iamlvm hashtag will be featured on the market Web site, on LVM€™s Facebook Page and Twitter at @WorldMarketCtr.

All social media enthusiasts are encouraged to use the official LVM hashtag, #LVMkt, to follow all Market news, highlights and dialogue from LVM and fellow Market-goers.

In addition to First Look: Ready Your Repin€”as well as introducing fun engagement campaigns for social media enthusiasts such as the photo contest, LVM and Traditional Home are teaming-up at Summer Market to bring attendees the €œSummer Blogger Salon€ for the third consecutive market. The following top bloggers from around the country will descend upon Market and embark on a two-day €œTreasure Hunt€ of top finds throughout the 5 million square-foot campus:
€¢ Ashlina Kaposta, The Decorista.
€¢ Cassandra Lavalle, Coco + Kelley.
€¢ Jill Brandenburg, Design Lovers Blog.
€¢ Kelly Beall, Design Crush.
€¢ Kim Johnson, Desire to Inspire.
€¢ Naomi Stein, Design Manifest.
€¢ Stacey Bewkes, Quintessence.
€¢ Marisa Marcantonio, Style Beat.
€¢ Victoria de la Camara, Vanguard.

Market attendees also will have a chance to meet the bloggers and Traditional Home editors on Tuesday, July 31 at 4 p.m., during a wine and cheese reception hosted by Traditional Home in the Blogger Salon, Building C-345.

Attendees can follow the conversation and reveals from the bloggers€™ hunt using the hashtag, #LVMTHTH. Plasma screens will be located throughout the buildings€™ atriums, featuring up-to-the-minute blogger posts and twitter feeds.
