Furniture Buying Index Steady at 75

By Home Furnishings Business in economic news on May 2, 2013

The Furniture Buying Index is holding steady this month at 75, according to America's Research Group.

"As consumers begin thinking about the summer and family vacation plans, furniture purchases are not a high priority," said Britt Beemer, chairman of America's Research Group. "Retailers need to run strong sales to entice these consumers to shop and buy furniture this month. Although many consumers have delayed or postponed furniture purchases for many months, the priority is now shifting toward summer plans and fun for the family."

The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America's Research Group from interviews with between 5,000 to 8,000 consumers across the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy.
