Ethan Allen Honored for Environmental Excellence

By Home Furnishings Business in Green on May 3, 2013

Full-line furniture manufacturer and retailer Ethan Allen (NYSE:ETH) will receive a 2013 Vermont Governor€™s Award for Environmental Excellence.

The Vermont Governor€™s Awards were established in 1993 to recognize the efforts of Vermonters to conserve and protect natural resources, prevent pollution, and promote environmental sustainability.

€œWe are proud of our commitment to environmental protection and we take it very seriously both locally and globally,€ said Ethan Allen Chairman, President and CEO, Farooq Kathwari. €œAll of our facilities, including those in northeastern Vermont are dedicated to making best use of our resources and protecting the safety and health of our employees and their communities.€

The Danbury, Conn.-based company€™s project--Fossil Fuel Oil Use Reduction and Increased Recycling Efforts--was honored due to the significant efforts of the company€™s manufacturing facilities in Orleans and Beecher Falls, Vt., to reduce fossil fuel oil use to zero or near zero through increased recycling of sawdust, chips and wood scrap, and to increase recycling in general to reduce land-fill waste. In the company€™s Vermont facilities, wood chips, and sawdust--byproducts of its manufacturing operations--are burned to provide steam energy for heat and reused for electric co-generation. This has resulted in a drastic reduction in heating oil use at these plants; the goal is to be oil-free by the end of 2013.

An award presentation will take place at the Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility€™s annual spring conference at the University of Vermont Davis Center on Tuesday, May 14, during which Governor Peter Shumlin will acknowledge Ethan Allen€™s environmental performance and sustainability accomplishments.

In Beecher Falls, Ethan Allen has also been recognized by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation as a Vermont Business Environmental Partner for its commitment to preserving Vermont€™s environment. Ethan Allen€™s Beecher Falls and Orleans, Vermont facilities became Enhancing Furniture€™s Environmental Culture certified in July of 2012. Launched by the American Home Furnishings Alliance in 1999, EFEC is an environmental management system that requires companies€”on a facility-by-facility basis€”to analyze and better understand the environmental impact of their processes, raw materials, and finished products. Earlier this year, Ethan Allen was awarded the Corporate Environmental Excellence Award at the AHFA€™s annual Sustainability Summit for demonstrating exemplary environmental management and ongoing stewardship.

Reverie Launches Online Dealer Portal

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedding on May 3, 2013

Adjustable bed, mattress and pillow vendor Reverie has launched a new online dealer portal designed to support its retailers and their retail sales associates.

The portal is a convenient and comprehensive one-stop resource on Silver Creek, N.Y.-based Reverie's product information to educate RSAs as well as provide ready-to-print marketing materials for easy in-store promotion.

Each Reverie dealer will have an assigned username and password information. Once logged-in, dealers can view a variety of Reverie brochures, marketing materials, product specification sheets, warranty and repair details as well as designated sales team contact information.  No longer will all information need to be funneled through one main point-of-contact, rather online access ensures valuable information is a keystroke away for all dealer employees.

€œIn the sales process, communication is paramount and that€™s why we want to make it even easier for our dealers and their entire team to access our product information. The ability to print a brochure on-the-spot for a customer or to easily find the answer to their questions is invaluable. It gives consumers confidence in the retailer and our product,€ said Reverie Vice President of Sales Raymond Totaro. €œOf course, it€™s also a win-win for us to provide marketing materials to our dealers. We know that if we offer well-produced content that€™s easily accessible it will result in higher attachment rates and increased sales overall.€

The dealer portal builds upon the recent re-launch of Reverie€™s Web site, which is designed around the tagline €œSleep Well Tonight. Live Better Tomorrow€ and features content about the benefits of healthy, restorative sleep.
