Pittsburgh-area contemporary furniture retailer Perlora will auction off more than $50,000 worth of leather sofas, sectional, chairs, ottomans and recliners this Saturday with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting two hospitals in Haiti.
The "Healing for Haiti" auction will raise money for Saint Franquois de Sales Hopital in Port-au-Prince; and Hopital Albert Schweitzer in central Haiti. Medical facilities in the Caribbean island nation are swamped in the wake of last month's earthquake.
Local television celebrities will auction off furniture to the highest bidder with bids beginning at one-half of manufacturer suggested retail price.
St. Franqois de Sales Hopital is one of the oldest hospitals in Port-au-Prince, built in 1881. It was heavily damaged in the Jan. 12 earthquake, but since then staff and relief volunteers have been caring non-stop for trauma victims.
Hopital Albert Schweitzer is located in Deschapelles in central Haiti and is run by Ian Rawson, whose parents, Gwen Rawson Mellon and Dr. Larry Mellon, founded the hospital in 1950. The hospital has 120 beds and is treating victims of the earthquake who have fled the capital city of Port-au-Prince.
Items for auction will be on display 9-10 a.m. on Saturday at Perlora's Warehouse at 3524 Charlotte St. in Lawrenceville, Pa. Bidding begins at 10 a.m.
For additional information, call Perlora at 412.431.2220.

Fabric and mattress ticking supplier Culp received notification Jan. 29 that it has regained compliance with the New York Stock Exchange quantitative continued listing standards.
The company had fallen below both the minimum shareholders' equity and market capitalization requirements for continued listing on the exchange. In December, 2008, NYSE notified Culp that it was out of compliance because the company's capitalization fell below $75 million over a 30-day trading period.
The company said its reinstatement to compliance comes as a result of the a consistent, positive performance commensurate with the business plan submitted to the NYSE, and its compliance with the NYSE's minimum market capitalization and shareholders' equity requirements over the past two quarters.
