Kincaid Plant Hits 1 Million Accident Free Hours

Solid wood case goods and upholstery vendor Kincaid Furniture celebrated 1 million hours without a lost-time accident at its Taylorsville, N.C., upholstery plant.

“The safety of our employees is of the upmost importance at all of our manufacturing facilities,” said Steve Kincaid, president of Kincaid, a subsidiary of La-Z-Boy. “We take pride in the quality of our furniture, but safety comes first.”

A “lost-time” accident is defined as a work-related accident or injury that causes an employee to have to miss time at work. As part of a comprehensive safety program, Plant Manager Stephen Little, Safety Director Stephanie St. Pierre and other leaders hold regular safety meetings and offer education to all employees. Safety education topics include everything from machinery-related safety to environmental safety regulations.

“We haven’t had a lost-time accident since April 2007,” said St. Pierre. “It takes a substantial amount of training and focus to reach this milestone, and I’m proud of our employees’ dedication to safety.”

Kincaid recognized the milestone with a celebration for employees at the Taylorsville plant. Leaders from Kincaid and Kapnick Insurance Group attended the event.

The plant has been part of Kincaid since 2000 and employs 82 workers. It is one of the largest employers in the town of Taylorsville.
