IIDA Hosts Sustainable Competition for Students

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is accepting entries for its Student Sustainable Design Competition, open to students currently enrolled in an Interior Design or related college program.

The competition celebrates original sustainable design and rewards students whose projects demonstrate consistent, creative sustainable principles. IIDA acknowledges Interface as a continued sponsor of the Student Sustainable Design Competition.

“The future of Design and the mission of sustainability is in the hands and minds of the NEXT Generation of students,” said Cheryl Durst, IIDA executive vice president and CEO. “That’s why we at IIDA are excited to offer this opportunity to encourage green, sustainable thinking among these young, nimble minds, and anticipate a yield of vigorously sustainable design solutions rich in innovation and forward thinking.”

Submissions are now being accepted online. Prizes will be awarded on the basis of originality and creativity, integration of sustainability, and will be judged by a panel to include Amy Campos, IIDA (ACA, San Francisco); Robert Moylan, IIDA (SmithgroupJJR, Washington, D.C.); and Tim Gajewski (Wolcott, Los Angeles); who will consider a public vote in deciding the winners.

Prizes include a $1,500 cash prize for the first-place winner, a $1,000 cash prize for the second-place winner, and a special award of an Apple iPad and free one-year IIDA Membership for the People’s Choice Award winner.

Deadline for project submission is Nov. 15. Visitors to the IIDA website can vote for the People’s Choice Award winner from Nov. 15 until Dec. 6. Winners will be announced Dec. 12.
