Simmons, Atlanta, announced that Gary Matthews has resigned from his job as the companys president after five months.
In an announcement Wednesday, company officials said Matthews stepped down after he and his family decided not to relocate from Connecticut to Atlanta as originally planned. Another factor was Chairman and CEO Charlie Eitels commitment to remain in his current position longer than initially anticipated.
Eitel will assume the responsibilities of president in addition to his current titles, and Simmons will not be seeking to fill the position of president at this time.
Gary has made great contributions to our business during his tenure, Eitel said. We appreciate the importance of family and wish him all the best.
Prior to joining Simmons in December, Matthews was president and CEO of West Long Branch, N.J.-based Sleep Innovations, a specialty sleep bedding manufacturer, and previously oversaw a Bristol Myers Squibb pharmaceuticals division.
