Havertys March Sales Drop

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on April 2007 Atlanta-based Haverty Furniture Cos. reported March sales dropped 11.6 percent to $66.1 million compared with $74.7 million during March 2006.

Same-store sales decreased 13.5 percent. Sales for the first quarter of 2007 decreased 8.6 percent to $191.1 million compared to $209.1 million in the same quarter in 2006.

Same-store sales for the first quarter dropped 10.4 percent.

€œOur March sales were indicative of the persistent weakness in the retail furniture sector,€ said Clarence Smith, president and chief executive officer. €œHavertys has endured many challenging cycles over its 122-year history, and as we have in past difficult times, we continue to sharpen our focus on those aspects of the business within our control.€
