Tupelo Market Sees Big Jump in Registrations

Market officials said hotel reservations also are well ahead of previous markets, but they stressed that rooms are still available for those needing last-minute reservations.

The market takes place Jan. 5-8.

"We should match or exceed pre-market registrations compared to the last five years," said Kevin Seddon, president of the furniture market.  "We have an extensive database of retailers that we market to aggressively and we track their attendance from year-to-year and market-to-market.”

Seddon said the market has seen “a significant increase in registrations of traditional furniture retailers of all sizes,” but said the increase is particularly noteworthy among smaller retailers, who were the most vocal supporters of moving the winter market from its traditional mid-February dates to early January.

Those retailers, he said, appreciate the fact that products ordered in Tupelo can be in their stores by the time consumers begin receiving tax refunds.

Seddon said the Tupelo market's expansion into the retail gift segment also has added to the number of retailers registering for market. Nearly 70 new companies will be showing at the market, and many of them offer gift and home accessory products that haven’t been available previously in Tupelo.

The January show will have nearly 400 exhibitors and approximately 2 million square feet of exhibit space under one roof.
