A High Point University interior design student has been awarded the Bill and Bonnie Peterson Endowed Scholarship.
William Conner, a student from Plainville, Mass., was selected for the scholarship that is awarded to students in the university’s School of Art and Design who are visual merchandising or interior design majors pursuing a career in the home furnishings industry.
Established in 2001, the scholarship is named for Wilbert “Bill” Peterson, cofounder of Furniture Today, and his wife, Bonnie. Peterson was regarded for his integrity, understanding of the home furnishings industry and contributions through journalism. During his career, he received a number of industry honors, including the Pillar of the Industry Award, the Distinguished Home Furnishings Journalism Award, and was inducted into the Furniture Writers Hall of Fame.
Conner, who is interested in a career in either interior or clothing design, said the scholarship and his coursework at High Point University are helping him lay the foundation for his future.
“The design program at HPU is very comprehensive, and I know the skills I’m learning will prepare me for any direction I choose to go,” he said. “Earning this scholarship propels me forward in my goals toward starting a successful career.”
