Batik Blue Takes Color Honors at Robert Allen

Fabric and home furnishings vendor Robert Allen has announced Batik Blue as its Interior Designer Color of the Year for 2016.

This moody blue beat out saturated Beet and subtle Mussel Shell in a survey of more than 2,000 interior designers and design aficionados to win the 2016 title with 40 percent of the vote among the three colors.

"Shades of blue always resonate in the design community, so it's no surprise that Batik Blue won out,” said Hannah Alderson, Robert Allen design director. “This isn't your average blue, though; Batik Blue alludes to an exotic origin and is a fresh take on a familiar hue."

Batik Blue, Beet, and Mussel Shell, were selected by the Color Experts at Robert Allen as three colors that will have strong relevance in interior design throughout 2016. From there, both interior designers and design lovers voted online, selecting the blue hue as the winner. To determine the initial three options, Robert Allen examined colors in style throughout history, as well as current color patterns on runways, in interiors, and even trending online.

"Batik Blue is a particularly versatile shade," Alderson said. "Think of your favorite pair of jeans and how you pair them with everything in your closet, regardless of color, pattern, or texture. We see Batik Blue the same way, as a backdrop to all colors, whether calm and neutral or bright and funky."

Batik Blue, Beet, and Mussel Shell will be featured in Robert Allen's Spring 2016 Color Library: Drenched Color collection, which will debut Deco Off in Paris Jan. 21-25.
