High Point Market attendees that participated in the inaugural Market Fit Challenge logged 1,500 miles and 3.3 million steps from Oct. 17-20.
Participants joined one of several peer groups for the competition, including designers, exhibitors, industry, press and media, reps, retailers and students. A leaderboard tracked participation through fitness trackers in a partnership with Matchup, a social fitness community and challenge platform.
Hope Harsin of Indianapolis-based Chatham Home won top honors in the individual challenge and a $250 Visa gift card by walking 134,814 steps. Anna Stowe of Great Design 4 U placed second with 129,247 steps and Mark Bolotin of WhyPayMoreShoppe was third with 101,891 steps.
Retailers were the clear winner in the peer group competition, almost doubling the steps of second place industry group.
“This challenge was a great way for us to have fun with an integral part of this horizontal market,” said Tom Conley, president and CEO of High Point Market Authority. “You’re going to put in a lot of steps at Market, so you might as well make the most of it.”
