Liess, owner of Lauren Liess & Co. was selected by editors to design a decorating scheme reflective of the home’s fresh take on classic construction. For the project, the designer blends traditional and modern furnishings, finishes, and colors with the home’s smart technology and innovative features. The Innovation Home will be revealed in the October 2015 issue of Better Homes and Gardens and online.
“We know that BHG readers love color, and I looked to nature to establish the palette,” Liess said. “The décor of the home reflects the breathtaking Wisconsin land just outside its door: the wide-open blue skies and fields of green and gold.”
Incorporating texture was another important element of the design process.
“I wanted to make sure that there was a sense of nature woven throughout the home,” she said. “We included a mix of natural textures and materials: woven grasses, textural wallcoverings, nubby linens, and various wood tones that are both warm and cool. These earthier elements helped to ground the color scheme, creating depth and keeping it from feeling too sweet.”
BHG’s Innovation Home incorporates more than 20 innovations in product technology and design. Presenting partners Azek Building Products, Clopay, James Hardie, Pella, and Sleep Number along with contributors Cambria, Crate and Barrel, GAF, Heat & Glo, Kohler, LG, McElroy Metal, and Plain & Fancy supply both interior and exterior features.
The home is opened for tours in Mequon, Wis., through July 26. Tickets are available onsite for $10 with a portion benefiting the non-profit Family Enrichment Center in Ozaukee, Wis. Sales from a portion of the home furnishings will benefit the Greater Milwaukee branch of national non-profit Rebuilding Together.
