BenchMade Modern to Open Hybrid Micro-Shops Across U.S.

BenchMade Modern, an online sofa retailer founded by entrepreneur and furniture industry veteran Edgar Blazona, will open hybrid micro-shops across the U.S. in the next 18 months. 

The first store will open by year’s end in the San Francisco Bay area. 

The upholstery company offers eight collections, all customizable by the inch and available in 45 color choices. Its online shop includes more than 2 million custom combinations and manufactures in as little as 24 hours. 

The company is backed by angel investors including Jason Calacanis, the co-founder of Weblogs, Inc. Other investors include Michael and Xochi Birch, co-founders of several startups, and Ted Rheingold, COO of InVenture Capital Corp. and founder of Dogster, Inc.
