ASID Names National Honors Recipients

The awards recognize outstanding service to the Society, its Chapters, and the community as demonstrated by individuals, industry partners, and chapters.

“Through significant engagement with their local Chapters and communities, our National Honors recipients continue to advance the ASID mission,” said ASID CEO Randy Fiser. “They are passionate leaders in our profession and make a meaningful impact on the work we do. Their deep commitment to the interior design profession, the Society, and its members is inspiring. We’re honored to recognize their exemplary dedication.”

The ASID Chapter Community Service Award recognizes a professional Chapter that has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community service during the previous ASID program year and exemplifies the spirit of bringing design to life in the service of others.

Su Casa Redesign Project, New York Metro Chapter

From 2011-14, the New York Metro Chapter coordinated a pro bono design project to renovate Su Casa Residence, a facility that provides long-term treatment for those recovering from addiction. Volunteers donated over $450K worth of design services and labor while collecting more than $160K in cash donations. The project team used evidence-based design practices and sustainable materials in the renovation, finishing the project in December 2014. Co-chairs Theresa Seabaugh, Allied ASID, and Alma Nugent, ASID, led the team which also included Gretchen Reinheimer, Allied ASID; Vincent Taylor, ASID; and Jacqueline Hosford, ASID.

The ASID Medalist Award recognizes members and non-design professionals who have exhibited two of the following three criteria in their career: outstanding service to a Chapter or to ASID; significant contributions to the interior design profession; and/or significant contributions that enrich the human experience.

Sybil Jane Barrido, ASID, NCIDQ, CID, California Los Angeles Chapter

Sybil Jane Barrido actively participates in her Chapter and community, both as a leader and a mentor. In addition to numerous roles over the span of nearly 20 years, she served as president of the ASID Los Angeles Chapter from 2005-06, and served on the ASID National Board from 2010-12. In addition to her interior design firm, SJVD Design—which specializes in hospitality, urban reuse, development, and commercial and residential projects—Barrido is an adjunct faculty member in the School of Architecture at Woodbury University, Burbank, Calif.

Mary G. Knopf, ASID, LEED AP BD+C, Alaska Chapter

Mary G. Knopf has served as the Alaska Chapter’s president for multiple terms (1998, 2004, and 2012), and has been active as a chair and member of the nominating, strategic planning, and Chapter fundraising committees. She has 32 years of contract interior design experience—29 of those years spent in Alaska. A recognized leader in the industry, Knopf is a partner at ECI/Hyer and is the principal with oversight for the interior design department.

The Educator Medalist Award recognizes members who have exhibited two of the following three criteria in their career: outstanding service to a Chapter, Student Chapter, and/or to ASID; significant local, regional, or national contributions to interior design education; and/or sustained, notable contributions that have enriched the human experience.

Lisa M. Tucker, Ph.D., ASID, FIDEC, CID, AIA, IIDA, LEED AP BD+C, Virginia Chapter

Lisa M. Tucker served as her chapter’s president from 2009-10, and has played an active role as a board member, student kick-off coordinator, and student task force chair. She is the ASID faculty liaison at Virginia Tech—a position she has held since 2007—and is the undergraduate program chair for the School of Architecture. She is an accomplished writer, having published a number of books on sustainable design, and has contributed to books and journals on historic preservation, environmental responsibility, and transitional spaces.

The Industry Partner (IP) Merit Award recognizes industry partners who have exhibited two of the following three criteria: outstanding service to a Chapter and the profession of interior design; significant local, regional, or national contributions to the interior design profession; and/or sustained, notable contributions that have enriched the human experience.

Doug Hartsell, Duralee, Washington Metro Chapter

Doug Hartsell’s longtime chapter involvement and extensive network of contacts in the design industry have made him one of his Chapter’s most reliable supporters. He has arranged for Duralee to sponsor many Chapter events, including an extremely well-attended luncheon following a tour of the White House. For the past 12 years, he has been vice president of corporate showrooms for Duralee Fabrics.

Patty Dominguez, Cosentino, California Central/Nevada Chapter

Patty Dominguez has spearheaded Cosentino’s support and involvement with many ASID Chapters and programs, including the Chapter Leadership Conference. She currently sits on the ASID Foundation Board of Trustees. Her passion for the Foundation’s mission, as well as her creative thinking, is evident in her support of ASID and its Chapters. Dominguez is vice president of design and kitchen and bath sales for Cosentino North America.

The Lifetime Award recognizes individuals of a distinguished age who have been ASID professional members for 25 years or more, and who have made continual and important contributions to the Chapter or to the Society.

Linda Singer Heinz, FASID, Arizona North Chapter

An ASID member since the Society’s inception, Linda Heinz has served on the ASID National Board, national committees, and has held every officer position on the Arizona North Chapter Board. Her perseverance in helping her Chapter with fundraisers and mentoring design students has helped to strengthen the organization. Her involvement, dedication, and encouragement of ASID and the Arizona North Chapter continues to this day.
