Spotlight on ICFF Studio Finalist

2015 by in Designer Weekly
Jonah Willcox-Healey is one of 10 finalists for the ICFF Studio, a design competition collaboration between ICFF and Bernhardt Design.
As part of the 2015 ICFF Studio, Healey will showcase his Copenhagen Chair, a stackable chair made of bleached ash with an upholstered wool seat. His past experience with
Volk Furniture allowed him to design a few pieces, including his Hasley Floor Lamp and the Table Lamp.
“I am much honored to be a part of ICFF Studio and to be among this select group of designers,” Healey said. “I am both slightly nervous and excited to see what response my chairs will receive and where this design might go.”
Healey said he draws design inspiration from traveling. His design process usually starts with an object in mind or from a detail of something that inspires him. Once he has his design in mind, it moves on to concept drawings, 3D models and renderings, to prototypes and final refinements.
“I have had the chance to travel to both Denmark and Japan, experiencing their cultures first hand, which has greatly influenced my designs.”
In its 10th year, ICFF encourages undiscovered designers to submit prototypes for consideration by established industry professionals.
ICFF runs Saturday through Tuesday in New York.
