HP University Professor Selected Editor of Journal of Interior Design

Dr. John Turpin, professor of interior design and dean of the School of Art and Design at High Point University, will serve as editor in chief of the Journal of Interior Design.

He was appointed to a three-year term beginning May 1.

The repository for research regarding interior design education and practice. The Journal of Interior Design is a publication read by interior designers, educators and architects. As editor in chief, Turpin will play a role in curating the journal’s overall direction as well as providing editorial leadership throughout the content, review, production and publication process.

“My role as editor will keep me abreast of the latest research about interior design theory, education and practice that I can pass on to faculty and students at HPU,” Turpin said. “I hope that my position as editor will heighten my students’ appreciation for research in the field and that it will further instill in them its significance in the creation of interior environments that will enhance the quality of life for the countless people who will live, work and play in the spaces they design.”

Turpin was selected for his commitment to scholarly publication and mentorship of others engaged in writing. His prior involvement with the journal includes both publishing his own work and serving as a reviewer for more than 10 years. He has also served as liaison between the journal and the Interior Design Educators Council Board of Directors for three years. He has received five awards of excellence for his research from IDEC, which is the sponsoring organization of the publication.

Turpin recently completed a five-year term as one of the founding editors of the journal Interiors: Design, Architecture, Culture.

“This will be one of the highlights of my career as an interior design educator,” Turpin said. “It is humbling to be chosen by your peers to be the guardian of your discipline’s scholarship. I am passionate about the role interior design plays in the lives of people, even though most are not truly aware of it. The research disseminated by the journal continues to move the discipline forward and improve the spaces we inhabit daily.”
