IDSA Accepting Applications for Design Excellence

The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) is accepting applications for its 2015 design excellence awards.

Deadline for application is Feb. 16.

Celebrating its 35th year, The International Design Excellence Awards recognizes design excellence in products, interaction design, service design, strategy, research, concepts and student designs in several categories, including automotive. Entry is open to all, and winners are chosen based on a list of seven criteria, which includes innovation, benefit to the user and responsibility.

“The International Design Excellence Awards represent a prestigious recognition within the industrial design community, and it has an unparalleled history of recognizing the most innovative and powerful designs that have helped millions of people and made life easier and more beautiful,” said Austen Angell, IDSA chair. “We have no doubt that this year’s group of automotive design entries will continue that tradition, and we look forward to seeing what the most brilliant design minds in the world have created.”

This year’s Jury Chair, Matthew Marzynski, IDSA, of the University of Washington, will lead a panel of 24 design experts, who are all chosen for their industry leadership.

There are two judging stages: at the second of which, finalists are judged live at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Mich., where Gold, Silver and Bronze winners are chosen. Last year, nearly 2,000 entries were received from around the world. Previous IDEA winners include the Moment chair, the Govino wine glass and the Viola Park Kitchen System.

Competition results will be revealed live at the IDSA International Conference Aug. 22 in Seattle.
