A2arquitectos Wins Design Competition

The firm was honored for its Spa in Mallorca project in Porto Cristo, Spain.
The competition, the longest-running annual competition hosted by IIDA, celebrates outstanding, innovative interior design and interior architecture that encourages new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishings of interior spaces. The award was presented at COOL 2014, the annual IIDA black-tie gala, as part of the IIDA celebration at NeoCon.
“With its bold emphasis on light and open space, A2arquitectos’ project demonstrates a passion for design and innovation," said Cheryl Durst, IIDA executive vice president and CEO. "The project’s repurposing of an existing space to take great advantage of the abundant natural light, along with its addition of a green roof shows a commitment to bettering the lives of people through sustainable design and green thinking. This demonstrated commitment to changing people’s lives through design upholds the high standards that IIDA expects of the profession worldwide, and as such, we are pleased to honor A2arquitectos as Best of Competition winner as part of our 20th anniversary celebration of IIDA.”
The judging panel for the competition included Ed Bakos, managing director, Champalimaud; David Darling, co-founder and principal, Aidlin Darling Design; Ray Eshcheid, senior vice president of store design and merchandising, Bank of America Corp.; and Alessandro Munge, co-founder and principal, Munge Leung.
