Forsyth Board OKs Incentives for United Furniture

United Furniture Inds. has been granted $150,000 in government incentives to open a facility in Winston-Salem, N.C.

After a quick public hearing, the Forsyth County commissioners voted unanimously Monday to approve $150,000 in performance-based economic incentives for United Furniture Industries.

The company is considering moving into the historic Weeks plant at 401 W. Hanes Mill Road.

To receive the incentives, the furniture and upholstery manufacturer would have to create 200 full-time jobs within three years and retain the 47 jobs currently located in Union Cross Business Park. The jobs would pay an average salary of $28,420 a year, plus benefits.

United Furniture Industries would also invest $5.8 million in upgrading the 850,000-square-foot Weeks facility.
