Modernist Designer Vignelli, 83, Dies

Modernist designer Massimo Vignelli, known for great designs all around but most notably the redesign of the New York City subway map, has died. He was 83.
Vignelli's design aesthetic touched many iconic brands, including the famous Bloomingdale's logo and its little brown bag. Vignelli was also one of the curated designers for contemporary home furnishings retailer Design Within Reach.
Along with his wife Lella Vignelli, he also did branding worked for American Airlines and Ford. The couple also designed Fodor's travel guides.
Born in Milan in 1931, Vignelli first visited New York in 1957 before relocating the U.S. permanently in 1966 when he started Unimark International.
His works are on permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as at other museums across the world.
