OMI Crib Mattresses Pass Flame Audit

The results of this third-party federal audit guarantee that OMI’s crib mattresses conform to the highest level anti-flammability standards.
All three SKUs in Yuba City, Calif.-based OMI's crib mattress lineup meet the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standards without the use of any toxic chemicals. In order to pass these standards, mattresses exposed to flame need to fall below a set “peak heat” rate. OMI’s mattresses fall at the extreme low end of the audit’s criteria and, notably, do this while remaining fire retardant chemical-free and fire barrier chemical-free.
“Retailers have to be careful with the quality of crib mattresses they put on their showroom floors,” said OMI President and Founder Walt Bader. “New parents have traditionally been concerned with providing a truly ‘green’ bedroom for their newborns, and it is important to recognize that children’s mattress safety standards highly differ from adult mattress standards. OMI was established on the principle that consumers should not have to choose between a safe mattress and a comfortable mattress. Our beds provide both safety and comfort, and we remain heavily invested in meeting and exceeding the safety guidelines needed for today’s market.”
OMI’s handmade custom organic mattresses are manufactured in Northern California in a large-scale GOTS-certified Eco-Factory created solely to manufacture organic products. OMI mattresses qualify under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s LEEDs indoor air-quality program.
In 2013, OMI became the first mattress manufacturer to obtain the Global Organic Latex Standard, certifying the company’s latex mattress cores are fully organic.
