Stanley Furniture's Young America brand has named Kiersten Hathcock, founder and CEO of Flagstaff, Ariz., retailer Mod Mom Furniture spokesperson for its line of infant and children’s furniture.
Hathcock will represent both the online and in-store brand via social media channels and personal appearances on behalf of the manufacturer in store locations and at industry trade shows.
Hathcock, a former cable industry marketing executive, was searching for viable additional income options while raising two young children in her Los Angeles home in 2007. A self-taught carpenter with a strong sense of design, she began handcrafting mid-century children’s toy and storage boxes. Her custom toy boxes were featured on a 2011 episode of Shark Tank, which delivered national exposure and helped to further launch and expand her line of children’s furniture.
Her story has resonated with many working mothers who find themselves looking for career opportunities without sacrificing their commitment to family.
“I never gave much thought to what I would do about my career when I had kids,” said Hathcock. “Being able to build a company from my garage with my children at home, and see it grow, has been the best experience.”
Hathcock’s entrepreneurial spirit of Mod Mom Furniture brought her to the attention of David Petersen, vice president of marketing for Stanley Furniture.
“We think that it’s important for our brand to be represented by a contemporary of the customer,” he said. “She is a young, professional, ambitious, enthusiastic mom. Anybody who saw her on Shark Tank knows about her level of commitment to try to do it all.”
In addition to serving as a spokesperson, Hathcock will work with Young America to create a Mod Mom branded furniture line, which is expected to be out later this year.
“I'm excited to not only represent this award-winning brand but also work together to produce beautiful mod collections for Mod Mom by Young America,” Hathcock said.
