IIDA, ALA Open Library Design Competition

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA)  and the American Library Association (ALA)  have opened the 2014 Library Interior Design Awards.

The biennial Library Interior Design Awards honor excellence in library interior design, demonstration of excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, function and satisfaction of the client’s objectives.

“With the evolving technologies and demands of the library sciences, Design in library interiors must evolve along with them,” said Cheryl S. Durst, IIDA executive vice president and CEO. “IIDA is pleased to once again join with the American Library Association to honor and celebrate those taking the initiative to move library design forward.”

Submissions are now being accepted in nine categories: Public Libraries (30,000 square feet and under); Public Libraries (Over 30,000 square feet); Academic Libraries (30,000 square feet and under); Academic Libraries (Over 30,000 square feet); Special Libraries (30,000 square feet); Special Libraries (Over 30,000 square feet); Outstanding Historic Renovation Project; Single Space (a small project that focuses on a specific room or area in a library); On the Boards (a project currently in the design phase and not under construction).

Winning design projects will be selected by a jury of design professionals. Deadline for project submissions is March 28. Winners will be honored at the ALA Conference held in Las Vegas in June, and their projects featured in Contract magazine and American Libraries, as well as other publications and on the IIDA Web site.
