Seahawk Designs Expands Manufacturing into Mexico

Seahawk Designs, creator of the Sto-A-Way bed storage system, is shifting production of its newest products from China to Mexico.
Seahawk, Riverside, Calif., already has begun manufacturing its new Jewel and Synergy collections of affordable luxury sleep systems at two state-of-the-art manufacturing centers in Tacate, Mexico; the first a 45,000-square-foot furniture plant with more than 100 employees; and the second a smaller 20,000-square-foot plant that specializes in upholstery.
The move will result in faster delivery times, the ability for greater customization of product and a location closer to the company’s research and development center in Southern California.
“I am impressed with the growing quality of production in Mexico and numerous cost and production efficiencies because it is closer to our customers and corporate headquarters. By manufacturing just across the border, it opens a whole new world of design, customization and delivery options for clients,” said Seahawk Designs CEO William Jahn. “We were blessed to have found a manufacturing partner who had run plants in the United States and really understands the importance of quality and service. They have a highly skilled and well-trained workforce and they have done a wonderful job over the past few months as we have tested their abilities on beta projects.”
According to Jahn, Seahawk will continue to manufacture in China, but plans to reallocate more of its high-end and skilled work to the Mexico location.
“China is losing its competitive position on some products because their costs are going up. But more importantly, the distance and time-to-delivery makes it a challenge to change designs and customize product more quickly," he said. "Mexico is so close and it makes it so much easier to do this on the same continent.”
The Synergy Collection is a series of low-profile platform beds specifically engineered to accommodate 85-percent of the adjustable beds on the market today. Featuring ample storage, the series offers seven designer wood and upholstery finishes as well as matching headboard options at competitive price points.
The Synergy Collection will be offered in five upholstery options as well as two wood finishes: Espresso and a lighter, weathered Driftwood. Each piece can be sold alone or with a matching 60-inch headboard, creating a standout centerpiece in any bedroom.
The line features as much storage capacity as a bedroom chest, with four 24-inch full extension drawers that have touch latch features. The platform beds sit at 9-inches with 3-inch side rails that allow adjustable bases to sit hidden inside. The suggested retail price is $599 to $799 in queen.
The 80-inch-tall Jewel incorporates a touch of contemporary high fashion to any bedroom. The sleep system’s sateen upholstered headboard is designed using a variation of the 2014 Pantone Color of the Year, Orchid, and a contrasting ash grey colored hardwood trim. The headboard is flanked by two wood-trimmed beveled mirrored panels that support two floating nightstands with pull out trays. A matching low-profile Synergy bed base with four large touch latch drawers finishes the look and is sure to stand out on any furniture showroom floor. The suggested retail price is $1,699 in queen.
Seahawk Designs will debut the Jewel and Synergy Collection at the Jan. 26-30 Las Vegas Furniture Market in a newly expanded space in the Classic Sleep showroom located at B-0970.
