Officials to Ramp up High Point Market Security

Law enforcement officials said they will implement additional security measures for the upcoming High Point Market in response to Monday's Boston Marathon bomb attack that killed three people and injured upward of 175.

Additional police personnel in certain common areas, increased security at market events and sweeps by bomb-detection dogs are among the steps that will be taken during market, which begins Saturday. More than 70,000 furniture professionals from 110 countries are expected to come to the city for the semi-annual trade show, which runs through April 25.

Ikea Opens Maryland's Largest Rooftop Solar Energy System

Ikea said Tuesday it has plugged-in the solar energy system installed at its distribution center in Perryville, Md. 
 
The 768,972-sq.-ft. PV array consists of a 2,674.9-kW system, built with 18,576 panels, and is the state's largest rooftop array.

The Ikea distribution center will produce approximately 3,397,178 kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 2,397 tons of carbon dioxide, eliminating the emissions of 499 cars or powering 359 homes yearly.

Marlo Furniture Store Planned in Virginia

The company recently submitted an application with Spotsylvania officials for a commercial building permit at 4040 Plank Road. That 30,000-square-foot building was formerly home to RoomStore Furniture, which went bankrupt.
