Mountain Woods Furniture has New Owners

By Home Furnishings Business in Acquisition on April 17, 2012

Producer of rustic case goods Mountain Woods Furniture of Laramie, Wyo., has new owners.

Daryl Joy and Maureen Joy recently acquired the company from Mike O'Connell and Dee O'Connell. Daryl Joy visited the Mountain Woods factory in 2011 and "fell in love with the quality of the product," he said.

Joy has decades of experience working with skilled employees, tight margins and innovative ideas to build successful enterprises. He started his career in his family's trucking business and worked his way up to president in 2003. Under his leadership, the company grew and thrived, and his intention is to expand upon Mountain Wood€™s current furniture product lines and €œintroduce new tooling and additional machinery that will help produce a quality product at the lowest cost possible,€ he said.

€œI am thankful for the excellent stewardship provided by Mike and Dee O€™Connell during their 10 years of ownership, and I am pleased that Dee will continue in her position as sales and marketing manager,€ Joy said. €œAny company that has survived and is profitable in this economy is a very well-run company.€

Joy credits the previous owners with the foresight to commit Mountain Woods to the sustainability movement long before it was fashionable. As a founding member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, the manufacturer has been in the forefront of the green movement. Mountain Woods Furniture pieces have always been created by hand of reclaimed wood and sustainably-sourced local hardwoods.

€œThis ownership change has been very positive for Mountain Woods Furniture," said Dee O'Connell. "We have very skilled long-term employees who now have new opportunities for upward mobility within the company. The employees appreciate Daryl€™s diligence about product quality and customer service, and already see that his solid leadership will take Mountain Woods Furniture to the next level.€
