Retailers Charged With Insurance Fraud

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on November 2008 Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood has charged to furniture retailers with insurance fraud, according to local news reports.

Dustin Metcalf of Plano, Texas, and Ted Carskadden of Oxford, Miss., owners of Oxford Furniture Co., face a Nov. 18 preliminary hearing on 31 counts of insurance fraud. Carskadden faces one count of felony false pretense.

Hood said former store employees had filed complaints that their paychecks were docked for health insurance coverage they were not receiving; and that some of the workers had unpaid medical expenses as a result.
