Zola, a designer and manufacturer of eco-friendly home furnishings in Bend, Ore., announced Tuesday that it has been awarded Silver Exemplary Status by the Sustainable Furniture Council (SFC).
It’s one of only five companies worldwide to receive the designation, which denotes adherence to a strict set of criteria regarding sustainable manufacturing and business practices.
“We are extremely proud of our efforts to reduce the impact of our company and its products on our planet,” said John Byfield, Zola’s president and a founding member of SFC. “Receiving this recognition from the SFC means a tremendous amount to all of us at Zola who have worked so hard to achieve this goal.”
The nonprofit SFC was formed in 2006 to set standards for promoting environmentally sustainable practices within the home furnishings business. Members applying for Exemplary Status must submit a certified application attesting to their achievements in a broad range of environment initiatives that include the use of Forest Stewardship Council-Certified woods, bio-based or recycled materials and renewable energy.
