Las Vegas Market Sets ‘Green’ Seminars

By Home Furnishings Business in Las Vegas on June 2008 In addition to a new, on-campus Living Green Pavilion, World Market Center is expanding its lineup of educational seminars on eco-friendly trends in the home furnishings industry for this summer’s Las Vegas Market, July 28–August 1.

“This Market, our goal was to broaden the scope of the Brave New World Environmental Leadership Series by bringing nationally recognized leaders to Las Vegas to speak to all aspects of the ‘greening’ of the home furnishings industry,” said Margaret Casey, World Market Center’s director of programming, and Sustainable Furniture Countil (SFC) founding member and co-chair of SFC’s education committee.

Highlighted programs include:

• “Selling Green: How to Avoid Green-Washing,” Tuesday, July 29, 4–5 p.m., World Forum, Building B, 16th floor; presented by Jeffrey Hiller, PROaction Marketing Group

• “Why Designers are (and Should Be) at the Helm of Spreading the Sustainable Word,” Wednesday, July 30, 1:10–2:10 p.m., World Forum, Building B, 16th Floor; presented by Carol Baumgartel, ASID, and vice president of sales/marketing for American Clay Enterprises Inc.

• “The Many Scales of Green,” Wednesday, July 30, 2–3 p.m., Building C, 3rd Floor (C-316); presented by Susan Szenasy, editor in chief of Metropolis Magazine

• One Good Chair International Design Awards, Wednesday, July 30, 3–4 p.m., Building C, 3rd Floor (C-316)

• Brave New World Cocktail Reception, Wednesday, July 30, 4–6 p.m., Building C, 3rd Floor (C-316)

• “Let’s Go Green! But How Green and at What Pace?,” Thursday, July 31, 11 a.m.–noon, Building C, third floor (C-316); presented by Charlotte Matthews, vice president of sustainability, The Related Companies

In addition to the programming presented by the World Market Center Las Vegas in conjunction with the Living Green area, the Sustainable Furniture Council will host a variety of retailer-specific sessions.
