Bob’s Discount to Hold Long Island Grand Opening

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on February 2007 Northeastern retailer Bob’s Discount Furniture will open its 28th store, and first in the New York City/Long Island area, Feb. 15.

The 32,000-square-foot store in Farmingdale, N.Y., is the second location in New York state for the Manchester, Conn.-based retailer, which also has stores in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

A followup celebration will be held Feb. 17 at the new store.

“As we get 2007 underway, I’m am very proud to be opening our new Farmingdale, N.Y., store,” said Bob Kaufman, president of Bob’s Discount Furniture, in a release. “In the past, there have been numerous families from Nassau and Suffolk Counties who have traveled to one of the many other Bob’s Discount Furniture locations to shop for bedroom and other furniture items. Now, many more families on Long Island will be able to find out the formula to our success.”

Kaufman, known for his appearances in Bob’s Discount’s television advertising, will visit the new location opening day, a Thursday, and will be back on Saturday, along with fellow Bob’s television personality Cathy Poulin.

On both days, from 10 a.m to 10 p.m., a $100 gift card will be randomly given away to a customer every hour. Other prizes such as T-shirts and mugs will be given away, as well as free food and beverages at the store’s café, and also entertainment at the video arcade.
