High Point, N.C.-based Culp announced Monday that Franklin Saxon, a 24-year company veteran, has been named chief executive officer, effective May 1. Saxon, who joined the company as corporate controller in 1983, was named the company’s president and chief operating officer in 2004.
Chairman and CEO Robert Culp III will continue to serve as chairman and will be actively involved in key customer and industry relationships, according to the company’s announcement. Saxon, a member of the company’s board since 2001, headed the company’s former Culp Velvet/Prints division in 1988 and became Culp’s executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer in 2001.
“In recent years (Saxon) has been instrumental in bringing about the significant strategic and operational changes which have allowed the company to survive and progress through a rapidly changing industry environment, and, as a result, Culp is now well positioned to succeed in a highly challenging international market,” Culp said.
