Trostel's Home Furnishings Closing after 122 Years

By Home Furnishings Business in Retail Closings on March 1, 2010

Trostel's Home Furnishings will close after 122 years of business in New Carlisle, Ohio, the Springfield News-Sun reported Saturday.

The store was closed week and will reopen Friday for a liquidation sale. The economy wasn't the reason for the decision. Co-owner and manager Jim Slanker had died in October, and his wife, Jane, said she couldn't run the business and maintain service levels on her own.

"The economy didn€™t make it easier, but losing my partner was the biggest factor," she said in the report. "I just cannot manage it as well by myself as we did as a team."

The liquidation sale will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, and should run for six to eight weeks.

"We will still do some special ordering the first week of the sale," Slanker said.
