Michael Shoe to Lead Kingsdown QC

Bedding vendor Kingsdown has named manufacturing veteran Michael Shoe director of quality systems.
Shoe now leads Kingsdowns Total Quality Management program, which was created in 2007 to raise standards across all Kingsdown plants while integrating the sales and marketing departments into a single quality system. Shoe reports to Kingsdown Executive Vice President of Operations and COO Joe Schmoeller.
Shoe spent more than 18 years working in the textile industry, last serving as a multi-site plant manager for Burlington Inds. in North Carolina. After only six months in that role, Shoe launched a major turnaround for the Cone Jacquards Business Unit, marking the sites first positive financial and manufacturing performance in four years. As plant manager, Shoe helped implement ISO 9000 quality systems to improve overall product and process consistency and directed a number of Six Sigma process improvement activities including reduction of product lead-times, implementation of new manufacturing planning systems and improving manufacturing costs.
Immediately prior to joining Mebane, N.C.-based Kingsdown, Shoe spent six years as a senior facilities manager for Jones Lang LaSalle, where he managed commercial space and operations centers for Citigroup in multiple states.
Throughout his career, Mike has been involved in all aspects of manufacturing, quality and safety. We believe that his broad breadth of experience will help us to maintain and improve quality standards throughout the entire production process, said Schmoeller. He will also serve as a liaison among our facilities, overseeing our internal reporting structure to continually improve communication among our divisions and make sure we have 100 percent employee involvement in the process.
Shoe has his bachelors degree in textile science from North Carolina State University. He has received training in Six Sigma, ISO 9001/2000 and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Compliance.
