Costco January Sales up 10%

Costco Wholesale Corp. (NASDAQ: COST), Issaquah, Wa., reported January net sales of $5.62 billion on Thursday, a 10 percent increase over the same four-week period in 2008.

For the 22 weeks ended Jan. 31, Costco's sales of $32.45 billion were 8 percent ahead of the same period last year.

International comparable store sales increased 25 percent for January 2010, and were up 4 percent in the U.S. For the 22-week period, U.S. comparable sales were up 3 percent; 18 percent internationally.

Costco plans to release its operating results for the second quarter of its 2010 fiscal year ending Feb. 14 on Wednesday, March 3.

Costco currently operates 566 warehouses, including 413 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 77 in Canada, 21 in the United Kingdom, seven in Korea, six in Taiwan, nine in Japan, 32 in Mexico and one in Australia. The Company also operates Costco Online, an electronic commerce Web site, at www.costco.com and at www.costco.ca in Canada.
