Herman Miller Weaves Deal for Textile Supplier Maharam

U.S. office furniture, equipment and home furnishings manufacturer Herman Miller is spending $156 million in cash to gain control of 111-year old interior textiles producer Maharam Fabric in order to expand its speciality and consumer activities.
The New York-headquartered target in question is a fourth-generation family business founded in 1902 by Russian immigrant Louis Maharam.
Over the intervening years the company has evolved from a source of theatrical costumes and set design in the 1940s to a forerunner of performance-driven textiles in the 1960s.
