Leaders of Design Council Kickstart Group in Berlin

By Home Furnishings Business in on April 17, 2013

After nearly a year of planning, the Leaders of Design Council ushered in its first year of formation with an inaugural event, a conference held in Berlin, Germany.

Spanning three days of educational workshops, speakers and informal networking, this event brings together the top minds in the design community to learn, connect, and celebrate together.

Founded by Meg Touborg and Keith Granet, The Leaders of Design Council was created at a crucial time for the professional design industry. Today's technological advances, the legacy of the recession, and consumer's immediate access to products and pricing has altered the landscape of the traditional design firm.

The LDC believes fresh ideas and personal relationships are paramount for the successful future of any company in the design field.

"We bring together the top design practitioners from all over the country, and delight them with original content and challenge them with new experiences," Touborg said. "Ours is a community of collaboration among leaders of all disciplines."

LDC is a hand-picked group of members and executive sponsor companies, including architects, designers and manufacturers.

"We unite to deepen their relationships whilst elevating and enhancing the value of design," Granet said.

In a time when the word value is being redefined, the co-founders are proud that this eclectic mix of highly accomplished participants join together to create value in their businesses, with their projects, and for their clients.

Made possible through membership dues and the significant contributions of special companies such as Merida, the I. Grace Company, One Kings Lane, Nanz Hardware, Remains Lighting and Exquisite Surfaces among others, the annual conference created a community of design professionals.

During the conference, members heard from a variety of magazine editors, designers and trend forecasters.

"Our members relished the new perspectives gained by traveling with each other, and returned this week to the US with refreshed creativity, new resources and actionable ideas to strengthen their design firms," Touborg said.

Notable attendees included: Charlotte Moss, Tim Corrigan, John Ike and Tom Kligerman, Jan Showers, Celerie Kemble, Suzanne Kasler, Tom Callaway, Ankie Barnes, Tim Campbell and Pamela Babey.

The Leaders of Design Council will build on the momentum from the conference with the recent launch of its Web site and release of its App, available in the Apple Store, designed to promote design to the general public and connect members on subjects of interest through password-protected fields, and through monthly lectures, events and programs. The next event is a private dinner to be held during the High Point Spring Market.
