AHFA Examines Global Supply Chain

By Home Furnishings Business in sourcing/importing on February 8, 2013

The American Home Furnishings Alliance will host its 2013 Global Supply Chain Management Conference on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Airport Embassy Suites in Greensboro, N.C.

Registration for the 9 a.m.-4 p.m. meeting is $99 for AHFA members and $149 for non-members. The cost includes lunch.

Featured speakers include Jonathan Gold, vice president of supply chain and customs policy for the National Retail Federation, who will discuss the impact of current logistics challenges on furniture retailing.

Offering insights on global issues impacting international logistics is Dave Bennett, general manager of business development for LF Logistics. As the ocean carrier contract season approaches, Bennett will provide attendees with important updates that may impact new contracts. His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring leading ocean carriers and NVOCCs (non vessel operating common carriers).

Sean Garney, policy analyst for the American Trucking Associations, will discuss transportation issues coming out of Washington, including implementation of the federal 2010 Compliance, Safety and Accountability program and the Federal Transit Administration€™s MAP-21 (€œMoving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century,€ President Obama€™s 2012 reauthorization of surface transportation programs through fiscal year 2014). In addition, AHFA CEO Andy Counts will provide an update on current regulatory issues, including an overview of the revised California flammability standard and recent Proposition 65 actions in California.

Domestic supply chain issues will be the topic of a panel discussion moderated by Alvin Daughtridge of Fairfield Chair. Panelists include Chuck Miller of Klaussner and Richard Eanes of Warren Trucking.

Finally, an ocean transportation panel will be moderated by Barry Bailey of Bernhardt and will include Mike Morris of Maersk Line, Matt Smith of MOL Lines Inc., Michael Coleman of CV International, and Steve Sims of Bridge Terminal Transport.

All conference attendees are invited to join the Specialized Furniture Carriers at an opening reception, 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Embassy Suites.

Overnight accommodations at the Embassy Suites are available at a discounted rate of $119 per night. Call the hotel directly at 336.668.4535 for reservations.
