N.J. Ashley Homestores Donates Mattresses

By Home Furnishings Business in Community/Charitable Support on February 7, 2013

Ashley Furniture Homestores of Central New Jersey will donate twin and queen mattresses to the families that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

In collaboration with Tempur-Pedic Ashley Furniture HomeStore of Central New Jersey will provide 41 Tempur-Pedic mattresses to families in need on Friday.

Will Schafer, president of South Brunswick Furniture Inc., a licensee of Ashley Furniture Homestores, believes a locally owned business should be a good steward to the community it serves.

"As a family business stationed here in New Jersey, we were also negatively impacted by Sandy", said Schafer. "As an Elite dealer with Tempur-Pedic, we developed a partnership to give back to those in the hardest hit areas.  These beds will provide a good night's sleep to those who have had many sleepless nights trying to recover from the aftermath of Sandy."

All 41 mattresses will be distributed to non-profit organizations within the community that were carefully selected based on need.  On Friday, the selected organizations will visit the licensee's North Brunswick warehouse between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to receive the mattresses donated to their cause.

Executive director of the Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation, Ana Quintela, will represent one of the three organizations that will be receiving mattresses.

€œBEOF is very grateful that Ashley [Furniture Homestore] will be able to assist Bayonne Residents in need," Quintela said. "Several families lost everything in their apartment since they were located in flooded location. These mattresses will allow these people to sleep on a mattress instead of the floor.€

The following organizations will receive mattresses:
* The Destiny Community Development Corp. in Brick, N.J., is a faith based nonprofit community organization involved with programs and services addressing the personal needs of community residents who require assistance to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families.
* The Bayonne Economic Opportunity Foundation was incorporated in 1965 with a philosophy of Community Action through the marshaling of citizens' participation and public and private funding. Although the agency's mission is to assist low income citizens, they pride ourselves on trying never to turn anyone away who feel they are in need without a referral to where they can be assisted.
* The Celebration of Life Center under the "Greater Is He "ministry of Trenton was established as an outreach ministry in March of 2004 in Trenton, N.J. This ministry is focused on bettering the lives of those within the Trenton community.

Schafer owns and operates five Ashley Furniture HomeStores with locations in Eatontown, Freehold, Linden, North Brunswick, and Woodbridge, N.J.
