Wayfair Chalks up Record Black Friday

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on November 27, 2012

Online home products and furnishings retailer Wayfair.com announced record Black Friday sales of more than $3.5 million.

For the entire Thanksgiving holiday weekend, Wayfair.com, Boston, Mass., saw a 37 percent increase compared with the same days last year; and more than doubled the percent of revenue from mobile to generate one sale every three seconds throughout the day. The company expected the momentum to increase this week as shoppers sought online savings and deals on Cyber Monday.

"We are geared up for record sales this holiday season and expect to see significant year over year revenue growth continue throughout Cyber Monday and beyond as more and more shoppers discover Wayfair.com," said Niraj Shah, CEO and co-founder of Wayfair.com. "When it comes to finding great deals on an unparalleled selection of home furnishings and literally millions of products for holiday entertaining, decorating and gifting, Wayfair.com offers the best shopping experience possible."

For Cyber Monday, the home furnishings retailer rolled out a number of deals and promotions on popular holiday products. Top selling items from Black Friday included luxury sheet sets, lamps, television stands, game tables, dolls and electronic toys.

Wayfair.com employs more than 1,000 people and was recently named the 28th most valuable private digital company in the world by Business Insider. Wayfair.com operates distribution and operations centers in Ogden, Utah; and Hebron, Ky.; and has international offices in Galway, Ireland; London, Berlin and Sydney.
