Hayneedle To Open West Coast Distribution Center

By Home Furnishings Business in Furniture Retailing on November 16, 2012

Online home furnishings retailer Hayneedle will open a 300,000-square-foot West Coast distribution center this spring.

he leased facility in Riverside, Calif., will bring Omaha-based Hayneedles total warehousing to 900,000 square feet and should enable standard two-day ground shipping to 90 percent of its customers.

From its current location in Monroe, Ohio, which opened in 2010 and recently expanded to approximately 600,000 square feet, Hayneedle delivers to 70 percent of its customers in two days via standard ground shipping.

In addition to providing fulfillment to customers in the western United States, the Riverside facility also will serve as a deconsolidation and cross-dock site for Hayneedle's imported and exclusive home and outdoor products.

"The West Coast facility is yet another milestone in our growth and the location aligns with our commitment to provide unparalleled selection and unmatched customer service," said Tom Clement, Hayneedle's vice president of supply chain and logistics. "We are excited to join the Riverside community, which has been very enthusiastic in welcoming us."

The new facility will open in spring 2013 with a core team of approximately 20 associates; the number of employees is expected to double in the next few years.

"We strive to set the highest standard for the online home furnishings industry when it comes to delivering an exceptional and consistent customer experience," said Clement. "To do so takes intensive planning across all components of our supply chain. Our long-term facility commitments in Monroe, Ohio and, now, in Riverside, California, provide additional expansion options of 220,000 square feet of space to accommodate future growth, while maintaining award-winning customer service."

The building in Riverside is owned by Sycamore Business Park a joint venture between Trammell Crow Company and Clarion Partners. Si Pitstick of Cincinnati Commercial Realtors and Chuck Belden of Cushman & Wakefield's Inland Empire office represented Hayneedle in the transaction.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2012, hayneedle.com is an online destination to find everything home, from patio furniture to platform beds, coffee tables to cuckoo clocks. Hayneedle has been recognized by Internet Retailer and Inc. Magazine as one of the top online retailers and fastest growing companies in America.
