The revised amount raised during the National Home Furnishings Industry's (NHFI) Taste of Hope, Italia event honoring Mike Massood, Sr., co-founder of MGM Transport, and Connie Post, of Connie Post International, Saturday, Sept. 29 has topped $85,000.
The Italian-themed event, hosted by City of Hope's NHFI Eastern Committee, brought together more than 160 of the home furnishings industry's power hitters in support of groundbreaking research in cancer and diabetes.
Industry luminaries Neil Goldberg of Raymour & Flanigan, Simon Kaplan of Crest Furniture and Joe Bograd joined Furniture Hall of Fame honorees Jena Hall and Kevin O'Connor for an evening of mingling for the cause. Highlights of the event included live entertainment, Italian cuisine and a live auction featuring a business lunch with Kaplan, last year's East Coast Region's first honoree and a fishing excursion with Joe Cory, Sr. of Cory 1st Home Delivery, a past Spirit of Life national honoree for City of Hope.
"The $85,000 raised pushed the annual giving for the National Home Furnishings Industry group for the 2012 year to $2.5 million", said Patrick Cory, chairman of the region. "This event, and all the efforts of the National Home Furnishings Industry, supports City of Hope's innovative research, exceptional patient care and guiding humanitarian principals."
