City of Hope's National Home Furnishings Industry Group will honor the Cartledge and Bennett families, owners of Roanoke, Va.-based Grand Home Furnishings with the Spirit of Life Award, City of Hope's most prestigious philanthropic honor, on April 18 at the Sheraton Hotel at Four Seasons in Greensboro, N.C.
In its 45 years, the National Home Furnishings Industry Group has raised more than $45 million for cancer research, treatment and education at City of Hope in Los Angeles, one of the nation's leading centers for researching and treating cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
"City of Hope is an enormous asset to patients everywhere who face a life-threatening disease," said George Cartledge III, president of Grand Home Furnishings. "Our company is privileged to help the institution pursue new ideas and accelerate the pace of discovery so that cures can be found."
Grand Home Furnishings is one of the largest furniture chains in the South, with 15 stores in 14 cities throughout western and central Virginia, east Tennessee and the eastern part of West Virginia. The Cartledge family has owned and operated the company since 1945.
"We are pleased to honor the Cartledge and Bennett families with our highest philanthropic award," said Michael Sandler, director of development for City of Hope. "The support of Grand Home Furnishings is vital to City of Hope's efforts to advance research and ensure patients everywhere benefit from new treatments and therapies."
