Fortune has named Christiane Lemieux, founder and creative director of home furnishings retailer DwellStudio, to its 2012 list of Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs.
Each year, the magazine recognizes 10 female entrepreneurs who are outstanding game changers, groundbreakers, and innovators. The 2012 list includes women who have created innovative companies across various industries, with Lemieux as the only honoree from the home design category. She will join The Fortune Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs community, which includes prominent female leaders such as Lauren Bush Lauren, CEO and Co-Founder, FEED Projects LLC; Jessica Alba, Co-Founder, The Honest Co.; and Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss, Rent the Runway.
"The best part of the Most Powerful Women Summit is sharing ideas," said Pattie Sellers, Fortune Editor at Large and Co-chair of Fortune's Most Powerful Women Summit. "Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs can contribute as much to the MPW community as they can learn from the big-name corporate stars."
Fortune said Lemieux revolutionized the home furnishings market when she launched DwellStudio in 2000 as a wholesale and retail modern home and lifestyle brand, offering high quality, trendsetting and original items fusing fashion-forward, modern design with luxurious details in home décor. The brand has since evolved and expanded to offer a full range of home décor and childrens furnishings, bringing color, personality and passion to the next generation of home design.
It is a tremendous honor to be named to Fortune's Most Powerful Women Entrepreneurs list and be among such a distinguished, community of women leaders, said Lemieux. A big thank you to my family and team for your support on this journey. We have a number of exciting developments on the horizon for the DwellStudio brand and look forward to continuing to inform and inspire a truly personal space.
The company functions has a stand-alone e-commerce site and a recently opened flagship store in New York Citys Soho neighborhood; and a new store-in-store located in H.D. Buttercup Los Angeles.
Other women named to the list include Jessica Alba, Co-Founder of The Honest Co.; Rashmi Sinha, CEO and Co-Founder of SlideShare; Jill Becker, CEO and Founder of Cambridge NanoTech, and more.
