Preliminary Ruling: DOC Gives Innerspring Shipper 235% Duty

By Home Furnishings Business in Legal on September 17, 2012

In preliminary ruling on 2011 shipments, the U.S. Department of Commerce has assigned a 234.51 percent duty on Chinese covered innerspring maker Tai Wa Hong.

According to a Federal Register announcement, DOC has preliminarily determined that Tai Wa Hong failed to cooperate to the best of its ability, which lead to the high duty.

The duty covers goods shipped from Feb. 1, 2011, to Jan. 31 of this year.

DOC said the announcement also serves as a preliminary reminder to importers of their responsibility to file a certificate regarding the reimbursement of antidumping duties prior to liquidation of the relevant entries during this review period. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in DOC's presumption that reimbursement of antidumping duties occurred and the subsequent assessment of double antidumping duties.
