Sealy posts 1Q profit, and shares rise after-hours

TRINITY, N.C. -- Mattress company Sealy Corp. said Tuesday it turned a profit in the fiscal first quarter on gains from a new, expensive mattress line, and its stock climbed in aftermarket trading.Sealy said it earned $1.2 million, or a penny per share, over the three months ended Feb. 26. A year ago the company lost $902,000, or a penny per share, as it spent more on product launches and advertising, and took losses from discontinued businesses in Europe and Brazil.Its revenue rose 2 percent, to $312.3 million from $305.5 million.
