City of Hope to Honor Jeff Seaman, Bob Sherman

By Home Furnishings Business in Community/Charitable Support on January 19, 2012

Jeff Seaman and Bob Sherman, respective CEOs of furniture retailer Rooms To Go and bedding vendor Serta Mattress Co., will receive City of Hope's Spirit of Life Award.

The Spirit of Life Award is presented annually to one or more national home furnishings industry leaders and recognizes outstanding business leadership and philanthropic achievements. City of Hope will honor Seaman and Sherman at its 2012 Spirit of Life Award dinner during the High Point Furniture Market on Sunday, April 22. This year's event will take place at 6 p.m. at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.

Both Seaman and Sherman have raised funds and heightened awareness for City of Hope within the National Home Furnishings Industry. City of Hope is a leading research, treatment and education center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Designated as a comprehensive cancer center, the highest honor bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, City of Hope's research and treatment protocols advance care throughout the nation. City of Hope is located in Duarte, Calif., just northeast of Los Angeles, and is ranked as one of "America's Best Hospitals" in cancer by U.S.News & World Report.

"We are delighted to have two illustrious leaders being honored by City of Hope with The Spirit of Life Award," said Jena Hall, co-chairman of the National Home Furnishings Industry initiative at City of Hope. "Together, with my national co-chairman, Roger Friesen of Casana Furniture, and our newly appointed Spirit of Life dinner chairman, Kevin O'Connor of Samson Marketing, we will celebrate the advancement and promise of City of Hope's critical research and treatments and the extraordinary contributions of these two industry leaders, Jeff Seaman and Bob Sherman, at our annual Spirit of Life gala."

"I'm proud to support City of Hope, an organization committed to finding a cure for cancer and other life-threatening diseases," said Seaman. Added Sherman, "It is a privilege to be part of this incredible industry and witness how our support is making a tremendous impact in the lives of patients and families all over the country."

"The National Home Furnishings Industry has been a longtime supporter of City of Hope's innovative medical research and lifesaving programs," said Kevin O'Connor, chairman of City of Hope's Spirit of Life initiative. "We appreciate their loyalty and we deeply value the industry's commitment and support."
