Huntington, Corn Board Mfg. Team for ZeaHome Upholstery

By Home Furnishings Business in Green on December 22, 2011

Corn Board Mfg. has formed a strategic alliance with Huntington Inds. to produce its ZeaHome line of upholstered furniture.

Through this partnership, Huntington Inds. will become the exclusive user of CornBoard in the manufacture of upholstered furniture. Made from corn stover, a by-product of harvested U.S. corn, CornBoard is a renewable wood replacement with many of the same properties of processed plywood.

The ZeaHome collection of upholstered furniture will be manufactured using CornBoard along with other eco-friendly components including bio-soybean based foam; padding made of fiber from recycled plastic bottles; springs which incorporate recycled steel; and fabric whose dyes are produced from non-petrochemicals.

ZeaHome will be offered by Corn Board Mfg. and will expand to include outdoor furniture made from 100 percent CornBoard.

"Adding CornBoard to our list of renewable, environmentally responsible manufacturing components is a big step toward advancing our mission of providing well-made, comfortable furniture while preserving the earth's resources," said Hayden Hiatt, vice president of business development at Huntington Inds. "We are very excited to have found a likeminded partner in Lane Segerstrom at Corn Board Mfg. Inc."

Huntington Industries also will make CornBoard pallets the preferred shipping pallet for all of its suppliers and customers.

"We are very excited to be working with Huntington Inds., pioneers in the home furnishing market, with their mission of preserving the earth's resources while producing quality furniture," said Lane Segerstrom, founder and CEO of Corn Board Mfg. Inc.
